At Google I/O 2019, Sundar Pichai introduced a “Podcasts about this story” feature for Google Search.

This feature indexes podcasts to show relevant episodes by content rather than just title. In advance of that, Google Podcasts is officially reaching the web for iOS and desktops.

The display of ‘recent episodes’ in Google Search result.

Google is now providing the feature to Search for the desktop and mobile web. Searching for a podcast on Google.com will display a card of ‘Recent episodes’.

Tapping any will send users to podcasts.google.com, with an interface similar to the Android experience.

You can skip and adjust the playback speed. Moreover, it will sync your playback across multiple devices if you sign in with a Google account.

The greatest limitation is that the interface only allows you to browse episodes from a single podcast, you can’t browse various podcasts from the site.

However, Google isn’t the only company to have released a web-based podcast player currently.

Back in April, Apple updated the web interface for Podcasts to allow it to play episodes directly, supporting rumors that the company is considering to breaking up iTunes into separate Music, TV, and Podcast apps.
