Apple sells six iPhone models, but a smaller phone is currently missing at a lower price. Small and affordable phone enthusiasts replace Apple’s 4-inch iPhone SE, which was discontinued in September 2018.
When the iPhone XR was released in September 2018, some considered it a possible SE replacement. However, this phone has a rather high price tag (although it has recently been lowered to £ 629 / $ 599) and is quite large. Currently, the smaller option is the iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch display for $ 479 / $ 449.
But the hope that an iPhone SE 2 will be released soon: TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that this will happen in March 2020 and Bloomberg said that their sources are the same.
The new iPhone SE 2 will be equipped with the following specifications ;
- 4.7″ Inch Display
- 3 GB of Ram
- 64GB of internal storage
- Will feature Touch ID not Face ID
- Space Grey, Red and Silver
- A13 Chip
- iOS 9.3.2, upgradable to iOS 13.3
- 12 MP, f/2.2, 29mm (standard), 1/3″, 1.22µm, PDAF
We have also heard that it can be branded as an iPhone 9 and there is an external possibility for Apple to release it on two separate models. The new concept illustration shows this device as a modified iPhone 8 with frosted glass on the back.
In this article, we collect and analyze tips for SE 2 (or iPhone 9) release date, specifications, design, new features, and price.
RELEASE DATE IPHONE SE 2
iPhone SE 2 release date: March 2020
When will we have a new iPhone SE? Opinions are divided. First, we may never have such a small SE replacement: the 4-inch screen is quite cramped for today’s tastes.
However, some reports show that we will have a new low-cost iPhone. And it could arrive in the spring of 2020.
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a note in October 2019, predicting that Apple “will launch the cheapest iPhone SE2 in Q1 20.” If you are not familiar with the jargon, it has announced that the first three months of 2020 – and will start from then in late March 2020.
Kuo repeated his claims in a research note (via MacRumours) in mid-November and pointed out that in the first half of 2020 we will see the iPhone SE 2 with a new iPad Pro.
The Bloomberg report of January 2020 says suppliers will begin assembling a new low-cost iPhone in February. Bloomberg’s contacts (people familiar with the plan) said Apple “should officially open the new phone in early March.”
The March launch date will coincide with Apple’s usual spring event and will arrive exactly three years after the release of the original iPhone SE in March 2017.
Others have made the same hypothesis. In April 2019, Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis suggested that a new iPhone with a smaller screen could arrive in 2020. More than MacRumors.
Apple has a small chance of releasing two small iPhones in 2020 or two slightly different versions of the same device. This is Digitimes’ request (a subscription is required) and is based on information from anonymous sources in Apple’s supply chain: Chipbond Technology, a video driver chip supplier, has received orders for two different LCD products. We are not completely convinced, but this may mean that an iPhone 9 and 9 Max are on the cards.
IPhone SE 2 PRICE :
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates $ 399 (based on Apple’s usual formula, we’ll translate it to £ 399 or just over).
Until September 2018, £ 379 / $ 399 for the 32GB version of iPhone SE and £ 479 / $ 449 for 128GB; therefore it was suspended. These prices are comparable to the iPhone 8 (Apple’s cheaper phone available) starting at £ 479 / $ 449 for 64GB.
If SE 2 is started, it may not start from where you live. Some reports in 2018 suggested that a new SE phone might be released, but not everywhere.
According to Economic Daily, a Chinese daily site, in 2018 Apple was working on a low-quality iPhone with the code name Hangzhou. This low-priced, low-priced model emerged to “take over the low-end market” in China and India.
Another report stated that SE 2 will be launched in India before being launched in other regions. Although Apple can adapt to plans to offer a cheaper phone in certain regions, this seems questionable (normally Apple does this by offering an older version of the iPhone in some countries).
IPhone SE 2 Specs (Leaked)
As for the components in the new iPhone SE 2, rumors show:
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the iPhone SE2, which it plans to release in 2020, will use an A13 processor, according to the October 2019 research note. Kuo also believes that the new SE will offer 3 GB of RAM (IF offered 2 GB of RAM).
This is the same processor found on the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.
SE had the A9 chip used on the iPhone 6S. If iOS 13 requires iPhone 6S or later, it would be very surprising that Apple uses an older processor than A11 Bionic on iPhone 8.
However, according to a Tekz24 report in August 2017, the new iPhone SE 2 will use the A10 Fusion chip (as seen on iPhone 7).
A Chinese report from February 2018 also suggested that the new iPhone will use the A10 Fusion chip.
The code in Apple’s XCode developer software also seems to imply that it may be on the pipeline of a new iPhone that shares functionality with the iPhone 7. This phone, called iPhone XX (it’s not the name of the phone, it’s a placeholder) – it looked like it had an A10 processor like the iPhone 7.
Referring to the code in a tweet in August 2018, 9to5Mac’s Guilherme Rambo stated that the code refers to a device that has an A10 processor and P3-gamut display but does not contain a notch or Face ID. This could be a SE modification.
