The fierce competition between two folding smartphones, Samsung Galaxy Fold VS Huawei Mate X, becomes an interesting topic to talk about. In fact, Huawei, which is currently the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, is very ambitious to get rid of Samsung from the first position.
Samsung is not the only smartphone’s manufacturer that has a strong ambition to make foldable smartphones. Only four days after Samsung unveiled Galaxy Fold, Huawei declared to compete by unveiling its first foldable smartphone – Mate X.
Although both of them are in the same segment, they have a number of distinctions. Here we explain our comparison for the two flagship smartphones:
Different Fold Concepts
Starting with the main aspect, they both have a different folding screen concept. While Huawei Mate X is folded outwards which makes the screen divided by two when folded, Galaxy Fold is folded inward so the folding display is closed when the device is folded.
Different Screen Amounts and Sizes
Huawei Mate X has only one screen with a size of 8 inches when unfolded. When folded, the screen is divided to 6.6 inches on the front, and 6.38 inches on the back. In other words, Huawei Mate X has a screen each on the front and rear side when folded.
However, Galaxy Fold is equipped with two screens. It has a 7.3 inches screen in tablet mode (unfolded), and a smaller cover screen with a size of 4.6 inches as a display when the phone is in a folded state.
The Number of Cameras
Huawei Mate X is reported to be equipped with a total of 3 cameras on the device. Unfortunately, there is no further explanation about the resolution of those cameras.
Surprisingly, Galaxy Fold comes with a total of 6 cameras on the device. One camera on the cover screen, two cameras on the folding screen, and three cameras on the back of the device.
The following list is the specifications of the six Samsung Galaxy Fold’s cameras:
Rear (triple): an ultra-wide 16 MP rear camera, a 12 MP wide-angle, and a 12 MP telephoto.
Folding screen (dual): a 10 MP selfie camera and an 8MP RGB depth camera.
Cover Screen (single): a 10MP selfie camera.
Different Variant of Connectivity
Huawei Mate X is only available in one connectivity variant – 5G. Somehow, this is coming up with a little concern due to the fact that not all regions have a 5G connection.
Meanwhile, Galaxy Fold will be released in two connectivity variants – 5G and LTE (4G).
Price and Availability
It is considered as a normal thing if these two foldable smartphones are going to be pricey. Both of the manufacturers give their best premium taste in those devices so you won’t expect them to be cheap.
Huawei Mate X starts at a price of around €2,300 (about $2600) and will begin shipping between the upcoming June and July 2019.
For its price, Galaxy Fold costs $1,980. This device will be available on April 26, 2019, and you can start your pre-order fromnow.

From the brief comparison between Huawei Mate X vs Galaxy Fold above, it is tricky to conclude which one is better. Both of them have their own plus and minus points.
The following list is some stuff for you before grabbing those two devices:
Huawei Mate X has a larger screen size and has its own uniqueness because when folded, the front and rear screens can be used. Samsung Galaxy Fold has a smaller screen size, but more compacts and fits your grip.
Galaxy Fold has more cameras with a total of 6 cameras. Huawei Mate X only has 4 cameras.
Galaxy Fold is again more favored because it has two connection variants – 5G and LTE. Huawei Mate X is only available in 1 5G connection variant.
he price of the Galaxy Fold is also more affordable compared to Huawei Mate X.
